Occurs Annually (Check Website for Current Details)

The GASB annually awards $5,000 to support research relevant to state and local government accounting and financial reporting. Its 2009 request for research proposals for the now-titled Gil Crain Memorial Research Grant is now available on the GASB website, www.gasb.org. Working with the GASB on research is an opportunity for academics and government research organizations that is far more rewarding than just the monetary stipend.

Applicants may propose research on any topic related to the GASB’s existing standards and standards-setting activities. Topics specifically identified by the GASB include tax abatements, government mergers, infrastructure, and popular reporting.

The application deadline is May 29, 2009. The award will be announced by June 15.
